Moving.

29 Sep

I am the worst person to set up a blog, ever. I’ve decided to go back to Tumblr. They make blogging way too easy, and I kind of prefer micro-blogging anyway. So please follow me over, update links, etc etc. I’ll sort out my blogroll over there soon, promise.

China bound.

28 Sep

Today I got some exciting and very unexpected news: I’m going to China in December!

My lovely and generous parents are shouting the whole family a two week trip to Shanghai and Beijing for a massive wedding celebration. The bride is from Shanghai and the groom Beijing, hence the two different cities and two huge parties. We are the only four non-Chinese guests, which is quite an honour. They originally married in Auckland in January 2009, where we met all their families and were invited to China for the more traditional festivities. I never thought we would actually go!

I’ll be leaving on the 13th of December and coming home on the 27th, so we’re away for Christmas. This will be my first time in a non-English speaking country (that I can actually remember – I traveled around Europe when I was three but remember none of it). I’ve spent all evening researching things to do and shopping destinations… Mostly, I just hope I get to see some giant Pandas.

Over the weekend, I dyed my hair red. Felt like a change, and I think it looks quite good. Still needs another red dye through it to really make it pop though.

We also went to see the Runaways, which is a great film and I highly recommend it. Kristen Stewart is actually tolerable for once, and Dakota Fanning is all grown up for sure. Hands down, best start to a movie ever. The movie was followed by a delicious dinner at Soto, where I had the best cocktail of my life. Called Southern Peach Blossom, it was a bourbon based cocktail with peach and apple infusions. Absolutely delicious, and this iPhone photo doesn’t even come close to doing it justice.

Currently loving Kimbra’s new song, Settle Down. Can’t say I’ve ever been her biggest fan, but this song gets my toes tapping.

Blitzkrieg Bop.

21 Sep

A few weeks ago marked the 70th anniversary since the Blitz.

The Blitz began on September 7, 1940, on a glorious sunny afternoon. The relentless aerial bombardment came to be known as ‘the Blitz’ after the German word ‘Blitzkrieg’, meaning lightning war. In addition to London’s streets, several other UK cities – targeted as hubs of the island’s industrial and military capabilities – were battered by Luftwaffe bombs including Glasgow, Liverpool, Exeter, Cardiff, Belfast and Southampton and many others. In London the City and the East End bore the brunt of the bombing with the course of the Thames being used to guide German bombers. Londoners came to expect heavy raids during full-moon periods and these became known as ‘bombers’moons’. Hitler intended to demoralise the country before launching an invasion using his naval and ground forces. The Blitz claimed the lives of 30,000 Londoners and ended on May 16, 1941.

The Daily Mail put together these awesome photos of what the devestation looked like then, & what the streets look like today.

Justin Bieber.

19 Sep

Trust me, no one is more shocked than I am that one of my first ever blog posts is about Justin Bieber. But I had to share this.

Justin Bieber’s U Smile slowed down by 800%.

It’s absolutely amazing. I feel like I should get really high and listen to it again. I spose you could potentially do this to any song & it might sound great, but it’s funny that this one is of the Biebz.
